Impact: Hawala scam data to go to court

After our Special Investigation Team exposed video clippings of Chetan Gupta, a hawala operator, laundering black money of politicians and businessmen.

His name cropped up in the Oil for Food Scam and in a series of corruption cases during Captain Amarinder Singh's recent tenure as Punjab Chief Minister.

After CNN-IBN exposed the story, sources in the Vigilance Bureau have told the channel that they will submit the data found on in Chetan Gupta's pen drive in court.
Under the Information and Technology (IT) Act of 2000, any computer-generated data, including that on pen drives, is admissible as evidence because any entry made will have a date of creation and be verified easily.

Sources in the department told CNN-IBN that records of black money and hawala transactions will be sent to the IT department and Enforcement Directorate.

Chetan Gupta has confirmed now that he did facilitate the transfer of large sums of black money of Amarinder Singh, his son Raninder Singh and other family members.
Reacting to hawala expose, the BJP has accused the Congress of not taking action against the corrupt in its ranks.

"Natwar has worked against the Congress but no action has been taken against him. Corruption cases have been filed aginst Singh but he's still their leader. Congress and corruption seem to go hand in hand," said BJP leader V K Malhotra.
